Our story began in 1990 when David & Kathy were newly married and living in Foster City, California.

We purchased our first puppy, a West Highland White Terrier we named Darby, when we achieved a financial goal we had set for ourselves. She really was our first child. She graduated from obedience school and we were very proud of her!! She was a wonderful family dog for many of our children's youngest memories in California and when we moved to Washington state. She was always careful to stay with us, and we never worried that she would stray far.

When we lost Darby, we knew there could not be another Westie that was as wonderful, and we needed to change breeds. We feel in love with the happy, whimsical personality of Norwich Terriers when we saw them at a dog show. Lucy fit into our family just perfectly as she was sturdy and patient playmate for our children's active years. Kathy competed with her and Lucy became a Champion and earned her Novice Rally obedience title. Sadly she passed away from cancer, and was greatly missed.

Bella was added to the family when the kids were older, and was such an obedient little thing ~ she could even go on mountain hikes without a leash! Kathy would point to Lucy on the leash while Bella ran free,  and say to the kids, "obedience has it's rewards"! It was a great object lesson!! As Bella began to age, we decided we should add another dog to our family while Bella could help train a new puppy.

Tired of hand stripping our dog to keep their "rough & ready" look, Kathy began researching different small breeds. Our daughter bought a tiny Yorkie named Henry who was quite adorable and she took him everywhere. Henry loved chasing toys (it was an obsession really) and didn't shed!! Did you hear that??? Didn't shed!! Not that Westies or Norwich Terriers were big time shedders, but they did shed, and the idea of not needing a lint roller at all times was really appealing.

When we first learned of the Biewer Terrier, we were intrigued. It was a new breed to us, and the US for that matter. Biewer Terriers originated with Werner and Gertrud Biewer in Germany in 1984, and accepted to the American Kennel Club as a distinct breed in 2021. Their roots began with Yorshire Terriers, but Mr. & Mrs. Biewer developed the breed over generations and now it has it's own look and personality. These terriers are more laid back and are wonderful companion dogs. That was what we needed to hear!! So we searched around the country for a breeder with the look and temperament we wanted, since Kathy wanted to also show our dog.

Kathy spoke with breeders around the country and finally discovered there was a breeder within 3 miles of our home!! Lynn McKee was well known in the dog show world as she had been showing and breeding dogs for about 50 years, and had a good reputation for her quality lines. Kathy went to view her puppies one day and although the girl she came to see had great conformation, the puppy wasn't quite the color Kathy was hoping for. That was when Lynn brought out a couple of tri-color headed girls to Kathy's delight!!

As the puppies grew, Lynn allowed her to visit them weekly and over those weeks Kathy's first impression was confirmed and she knew that "Pippin" would be the perfect girl for us!! We had our first Biewer Terrier!! We of course documented the day she came home with us!! ❤️
